Projects

In life and in our hobbies, we seem to live in a society where there’s always a solution, as long as you're willing to pay for it. Now retired and watching every penny, I find myself in a conundrum: I don’t want to give up the interests and passions I enjoy, but I’m also reluctant to spend money on yet another subscription based service. With this in mind, I’ve started a few projects. Over the years, I’ve developed a diverse skillset, having learned many different things throughout my life. Drawing on these skills, I’ve found ways to create my own solutions, each one designed to solve a problem without any cost or subscription required. Below is a list of my projects, and I’m sure there will be more to come.

I hope you find something here that might solve a problem you might have and everything is FREE without any cost or subscription required.

Field Guide

I built Field Guides as my own personal collection of simple, dedicated tools for when I'm out in the field. This whole project was born from a love for classic cameras and the unique process of shooting film and manual digital photography. Each helper on this site is tailored to one of my cameras, giving me quick access to settings, light meter simulations, and manuals without the clutter of a complex, all-in-one application. My goal was to create a digital toolkit that feels as reliable and straightforward as the classic equipment it supports. These guides are just for me, to help me focus on what matters most: capturing the moment.

MySalat.xyz

There are quite a few apps out there that provide Muslim prayer times and qibla compass, for when I’m travelling. Unfortunately, most of them cost money, or if they’re free, they come with ads, just like most other apps on the internet. Bismillah, My Salat is a web app I created, designed specifically for my phone. You simply go to the address mysalat.xyz and save it to your home screen. This gives you an icon that will stay on your homescreen until you remove it, and when you tap it, it opens directly to the mysalat.xyz web app. You can select the city you’re in, and it will automatically display the prayer times for that location. There is also a link at the bottom of the screen which takes you to another screen hosting a Qibla compass. I’ve found mysalat.xyz very useful, quick, and easy to use at home and especially while traveling in countries where you can't hear adhān, alhamdulillah.
